Turf Wars | Revolució Quadribarrats | Part 14: Sant Andreu’s European Champions!

In just 13 years, former Ultras leader Oriol Ribas had transformed his beloved Unió Esportiva Sant Andreu from fourth-tier minnows to European champions. Captain and homegrown hero Luis Marín lived out the dream of his Catalan natives as he lifted the Champions League trophy after inspiring a 3-1 victory over Napoli in May 2038.

The key to that success had been plenty of homegrown academy products and an army of exciting young prospects. So it feels like a good time to reflect on the progress of some of Sant Andreu’s superstar academy talents and showcasse the latest batch of exciting youngsters who’d led the club to glory.

GK – Roy Álvarez (26): The Costa Rican keeper joined in 2031 for £650k and quickly established himself as the number 1. He’s gone on to play 234 league games for the club and won 78 caps for his country.

RB – Giorgios Christoforou (23): 6ft 7in Christo joined as a hot prospect in 2032 and swiftly developed into one of the best right backs in the world. He has wonderful passing ability in addition to superb physicals, making him the ideal playmaking wingback. The Cypriot has 12 goals and 33 assists in 198 league games, plus 47 caps.

CB – Peter Digha (25): The rock at the heart of the Sant Andreu defence is 6ft 5in Nigerian Digha, who also joined in 2032 for £750k. He’s racked up over 150 league games and remains a key fixture in the side.

CB – José Samper (22): Samper has filled in at centre back for the last two seasons and largely impressed, although his rating slipped in the season just gone. Having signed for £1.4m from Levante in 2034, he’s probably the weak link in the first 11 and, at 6ft 2in, he’s the smallest player in the back four.

LB – Kelechi Suleiman (21): Completing the massive back four is the improving 6ft 4in Nigerian left back Suleiman. He joined for just £300k in 2035 and, after a year in the B team, stepped up to the first team over the last two seasons. He’s probably a winger naturally, but decent tackling allows him to drop in at the back.

DM – Pedro Rodríguez (30): The lynchpin and old man of the team is FC Barcelona product Pedro. He joined on a free in 2029, inspired the club to promotion in 2031, and has gone from strength to strength in LaLiga. He’s incredibly reliable as the sole deep midfielder and has solid passing ability. But at 30, his best may well be behind him.

MR – Norbert (20): This is where the excitement levels build, starting with versatile midfielder Norbert. The 5ft 5in winger came through the academy in 2033, got a goal and assist on his debut aged 16, and has reacked up 15 goals and 16 assists in 96 league games. He also became only the second Sant Andreu player to play for Spain in March, and he’s secretly very much one of Ribas’ favourites. And a new five-year deal is on the table to keep the youngster at the club.

ML – Genar Iglesias (26): On the other flank is fellow diminutive Spaniard Iglesias, who came through the academy in 2028. Initially, not much was expected of him, but two loan spells at Teruel and Cornellá saw him come back as the best player at the club, and he led the club to promotion with 18 assists. He’s become a superb player since, racking up 98 assists and 38 goals in 266 league games, and being the 2nd best player in LaLiga last season. And he’s very unlucky not to have had a Spain call-up yet.

AM – Luis Marín (26): If we’re talking favourites, then midfielder Marín is truly the toast of Cataluña. He also came through the academy in 2038 and went straight into the first team for the 28/29 season, delivering 12 assists. Since then, he’s scored 113 goals with 89 assists in 342 league games for the club. Despite multiple demands to join a bigger club, Ribas managed to hold onto the superstar, who became the first Sant Andreu player to represent Spain and now has 8 goals in 32 caps.

AM – Quentin Jansen (19): The youngest player and latest addition to the starting 11 is potential Belgian superstar Jansen. The 6ft attacker signed for £12.5m in the summer of 2037, fresh from winning NxGn, and scored 10 goals with 17 assists in his first season. At 19, he has plenty of improvement, but already has 2 goals in 8 caps for Belgium.

ST – Sam Docherty (19): Possibly the most exciting talent in the team, 6ft 6in Scottish striker Docherty scored 30 goals in his first full season in Spain. Ribas had long tracked the youngster’s development, before spending a club record £16m in January 2037. And he hit the ground running with a debut goal, before scoring 21 in 23 after replacing club legend Óscar Reyes. But, fresh from succeeding Jansen as NxGn winner and winning European Golden Boy, Ribas believed Docherty could become the best striker in the world over the next few seasons.

Beyond the first 11, there’s an army of exciting talent stepping up in support and regularly delivering. Here’s a quick look at the other talent inspiring the European champions.

ML AM – Razvan Gogu (28): First up is a player who’s very much not a youngster, but became more of a rotation option this season. Gogu came through the academy in the first season of the save back in 2026, came straight into the first team and has been a lynchpin ever since. He’s the club’s all-time record appearances holder, scoring 79 goals with 84 assists in 368 league games.

CB DM – Freddy Skogfoss (20): Skogfoss is set to become a superstar for Sant Andreu, as he’s likely to step up as a first choice centre back. He signed for £2.9m in 2037 and, having retrained as a centre back, looks like the ideal ball playing defender. He played 29 games this season and recently made his debut for Chile.

DM MR AM – Tomislav Adolf Bonacic (19): He may have a dodgy middle name, but Bonacic could be the midfield star of the future at Sant Andreu. He played in all but 2 league games in his debut season in Spain, already has 12 caps for Croatia and is considered a leading LaLiga midfielder.

MRL AM – Pablo Guerrero (19): The player with highest potential in the first time is versatile midfielder Guerrero, who came through the academy in 2035. He stepped up to the first team this season, but has yet to really make an impression in a handful of appearances.

MR – Carlos Morer (17): The player considered to have the most potential at the club is academy starlet Morer, who’s supposedly a winger but, given his lack of crossing, may be better suited to playing centrally.

These players offer just a snapshot of the talent coming through the ranks at Sant Andreu. The under-19s squad has 12 players with at least 4.5-star potential, including a handful of prospects in the 2038 youth intake. And Ribas was constantly seeking out the best talent around the world of football, with plenty more stars set to join in the future.

Having lifted the Champions League, Ribas was now focused on a task he believed to be even more difficult – usurping Real Madrid and their Turf Wars rivals FC Barcelona to try and win their maiden Spanish title.

But how long would it take them to achieve it? Our Turf Wars adventure continues on Monday!
