The summer transfer window can throw up intriguing player moves that give us interesting new Football Manager saves to take on. In the past, we’ve run guides to transfers that threw up new challenges for FM23 and FM24, and we’ll continue that with transfers that could shape your FM25 saves.
This summer saw major transfers like Kylian Mbappé and Endrick finally moving to Real Madrid, Michael Olise joining FC Bayern, Raheem Sterling becoming the latest player to swap Chelsea for Arsenal as his former club attempted to buy every winger on the planet, and former FM wonderkid Joshua Zirkzee ruining his potential at Man UFC.
But which FM favourites have made under-the-radar moves this summer? And which transfers could inspire you to take on a save you hadn’t considered In chronological order, here are 73 summer transfers that could affect your FM25 experience:
Olivier Giroud – AC Milan to LA Galaxy (Free): If, like 99.9% of FM players, you have no idea how MLS works and fancy a little dabble, how about expanding your horizons while managing the legendary French striker in LA.
Maarten Vandevoordt – Genk to RB Leipzig (£8.5m): This is the first of several intriguing signings that Leipzig have made this summer. The Belgian keeper made his Champions League debut at 17, but he is still only 22. You’d have to be comfortable managing the Red Bull team though, which I’m not.
Enes Unal – Getafe to Bournemouth (£14m): The Turkish striker was an absolute goal machine on FMs of the past and should be in his prime aged 27. But I’d forgotten he was even at Bournemouth on loan last season, given he only scored 2 in 16.
Kaio Jorge – Juventus to Cruzeiro (£6.1m): The Brazilian striker is much-loved by many FM players but has yet to replicate that in the real world. A move to Brazil offers plenty of intrigue if you fancy a save with 4-time national champions Cruzeiro.
Assan Ouédraogo – Schalke to RB Leipzig (£8.9m): Another intriguing Leipzig signing, the young midfielder has been heralded as a potential superstar in previous FM iterations. And still only 18, he’s one to build around if you have no respect for yourself and become a Red Bull aficionado.
Luis Guilherme – Palmeiras to West Ham (£19.5m): West Ham’s exciting attacking talent is boosted with the signing of 18-year-old Luis Guilherme, who’s one of a mass of Palmeiras homegrown talents to leave the club this summer.
Lorenzo Lucca – Pisa to Udinese (£6.7m): A bonafide FM legend, the big striker has completed his permanent move to Udinese. He’s still only 23, so he’s very much one to build a team around with a Serie A outsider.
Charles De Ketelaere – AC Milan to Atalanta (£21m): Speaking of which, fellow 23-year-old De Ketelaere struggled at Milan but completed a permanent move after impressing on loan at Atalanta.
Vitinha – Marseille to Genoa (£12.7m): The other Vitinha struggled in France but could very much be the man to build a team around at Genoa, who are yet another Serie A outsider.
Paul Wanner – Bayern to Heidenheim (Loan): The midfielder has plenty of potential in FM terms, and adds a little intrigue to a Heidenheim that massively overachieved in their first season in Bundesliga.
Andrea Belotti – Roma to Como (£4m): This won’t be the last time we mention newly-promoted Como, but their intriguing transfer business began with signing Belotti, now 30, who I think it’s fair to say has tended to be better in FM than he is in real life.
Ben Godfrey – Everton to Atalanta (£9m): This transfer went a little under the radar, but Godfrey was a real talent on former FM iterations and, still only 26 and a la Chris Smalling, could thrive in Italy.
Sergiño Dest – Barcelona to PSV (Free): The American right back has struggled to fulfil the potential FM players saw. But a recent ACL injury enabled PSV to pick him up on a free transfer, rather than the 11m Euro they previously agreed.
Daichi Kamada – Lazio to Crystal Palace (Free): This could be the free transfer of the summer as the Japanese attacking midfielder reunites with his former Frankfurt boss Robert Glasner at Palace.
Archie Gray – Leeds to Tottenham (£25m): An obvious shout here, but 18-year-old Gray is very much one to build a Spurs team around and had huge potential on FM24 that’s likely to grow for FM25.
Jørgen Strand Larsen – Celta to Wolves (Loan): Wolves have done some intriguing business this summer, led by 6ft 4in striker Larsen, who could join permanently for £23m.
Ronnie Edwards – Peterborough to Southampton (£3m): Edwards has been a great pickup in recent FM versions and newly-promoted Saints could have pulled off a doozy of a deal by getting him for just £3m.
Ethan Mbappé – PSG to Lille (Free): Kylian’s brother makes a move to Lille and could be a player to build around if you fancy taking on a now fully Mbappé-less PSG.
Nicolò Zaniolo – Galatasaray to Atalanta (Loan): The midfielder seems to be struggling to fulfil his potential, as he struggled at Villa last season, but has a massive opportunity to rediscover his form as he returns to Serie A with Atalanta.
Mika Biereth – Arsenal to Sturm Graz (£4m): A lethal striker on previous FMs, Biereth heads back to Austria following a loan deal.
Moise Kean – Juventus to Fiorentina (£11m): Kean feels like he’s one of those players who’s been around forever without really achieving anything. But, still only 24, he’s got a huge chance to impress at Fiorentina. That said, his unveiling presentation doesn’t promise a lot…
Caleb Okoli – Atalanta to Leicester (£13m): Another player who was massively hyped up courtesy of FM, he’s only played 17 games for Atalanta with a mass of loans. But he’s been given a huge opportunity to impress at Leicester.
Philippe Coutinho – Aston Villa to Vasco da Gama (Free): What a mad transfer this is! Just six years after joining Barcelona for a colossal £142 million, Coutinho was a pretty massive flop at Villa and returns home to Brazil with Vasco, where he’ll intriguingly play with Dimitri Payet.
Daniel Jebbison – Sheff U to Bournemouth (Free): Jebbison was a hero of my Crazy Gang series with AFC Wimbledon but has yet to do anything in real life. He’s still only 22 so should still have potential in FM and can learn from Solanke and Unal if you fancy a Bournemouth save – although he subsequently joined Watford on loan on deadline day.
Enzo Le Fée – Rennes to Roma (£19.4m): La Fée featured in this list 12 months ago when he moved to Rennes from Lorient. And for just £2.4m more, he’s now heading to Italy, which could really suit his playmaking abilities.
Oscar Højlund – FC København to Eintracht Frankfurt £1.3m): An intriguing transfer that I didn’t know about before writing this sees Rasmus’ brother head to the Bundesliga. The midfielder is only 19 and was excellent in a fun Kaiserslautern save I had on FM24, so should have bags of potential to fulfil on FM25.
Reuell Walters – Arsenal to Luton (Free): Walters usually becomes a really solid full back in FM, so picking him up on a free makes for an intriguing prospect if you fancy trying to bring Luton back to the Prem.
Nicolò Cambiaghi – Atalanta to Bologna (£8.4m): This guy was pretty decent in my beta save at Empoli on FM24 and impressed there in real life too. I’m surprised Atalanta sold him, but his move to Bologna could be interesting as they head into the Champions League.
Ciro Immobile – Lazio to Besiktas (£2.5m): This guy is historically a goal machine on FM so, even at the age of 34, his move to Turkey is an intriguing proposition.
Malick Yalcouye – IFK Göteborg to Brighton (£7m): I can’t say I’d heard of this guy before, but he’s supposed to be excellent and joins a Brighton side packed with exciting talent. So if you fancy a save using promising youngsters, Brighton could be the place to go. That said, he has subsequently gone out on loan to Sturm Graz.
Troy Parrott – Spurs to AZ Alkmaar (£7.6m): Parrott was a top prospect at Spurs back in the day, but like so many in this list hasn’t really delivered on his potential. But a move to Dutch wonderkid factory AZ presents an intriguing opportunity.
Sebastiano Esposito – Inter to Empoli (Loan): When one of the famous Esposito family makes a move, FM players have to take note. The striker heads out on his 7th loan deal and he could be a real hit at Empoli, which makes me wish I was managing Empoli again in the Beta!
Alejandro Francés – Zaragoza to Girona (£3m): Very highly rated on FM, Francés has made an interesting move to last season’s La Liga “surprise package” Girona for a very small fee.
Kelvin Yeboah – Genoa to Minnesota United (Undisclosed): Yeboah has been a decent prospect on FM but not delivered it in real life. But his move to the US could present a good MLS challenge.
Emil Audero – Sampdoria to Como (£5m): One of my favourite goalkeepers on FM, and a star of our Sempre Samp series on FM22, Audero is one of the many players to join the Como revolution.
Matías Soulé – Juventus to Roma (£21.9m): Managing Roma is a fun experience, and snaffling Soulé from Juve could be the star to guide your quest to win Giallorossi’s first Italian title since 2001.
Daniel Maldini – Milan to Monza (Free): Winger Maldini, the son of the legendary Paolo, was exceptional at Panathinaikos on my ongoing EuroTrip adventure. So if he’s anywhere near as good in FM25, he could be a key player to lead your Monza side to the top of Italian football.
Strahinja Pavlovic – RB Salzburg to Milan (£15.2m): A very dependable centre back in FM terms, the 23-year-old could be one to build a team around to usurp Milan’s dominant city rivals.
Emile Smith Rowe – Arsenal to Fulham (£34m): This is a bit more obvious, but I think it’s an exceptional deal for Fulham. Smith Rowe’s been a little unlucky with injuries and been frozen out of the team by Arteta as a result but, with regular gametime, I think he’s a better player than Trossard. So he’s a player to build an exciting Fulham revolution around on FM25.
Luka Sucic – RB Salzburg to Real Sociedad (£8.5m): Salzburg’s young talents have yet again been plundered this summer, with the promising Sucic now heading to the Basque region.
Ilaix Moriba – RB Leipzig to Celta Vigo (Loan): Moriba has had plenty of potential for a while, especially in FM, but hasn’t really delivered. Smehow still only 21, this feels like the time he needs to start delivering on his supposed potential.
Kieron Bowie – Fulham to Hibernian (£500k): The midfielder was a star on my Roth Raivers save way back on FM20. He’s not had a look in at Fulham but did impress on loan at Northampton, and he’s still only 21. So I think he could be an exciting player to develop as you take the fight to Celtic and Rangers with Hibs.
Myron Boadu – Monaco to Bochum (Loan): It feels like Boadu’s career has stalled a little, with him being one of those players who blows hot and cold. But this is certainly a big signing for Bochum, who give the attacker a chance to impress and become more consistent back in Bundesliga.
Facundo Buonanotte – Brighton to Leicester (Loan): Buanonotte has bags of potential on FM if you give him plenty of game time. However, he tends to be extremely expensive to sign from Brighton, so he could be a great player to build around if you fancy a shot at another Leicester City miracle.
Alexis Sánchez – Inter to Udinese (Free): I didn’t know this move had happened but, even though he’s well past it now, this is an intriguing option for anyone who remembers Alexis in his heyday.
Jean-Clair Todibo – Nice to West Ham (Loan): West Ham’s transfer business has to be the most intriguing in the Premier League, led by the signing of Todibo. It’ll be interesting to see how he settles in, but pairing Todibo with Zouma could help you fire the Hammers right up the table on FM.
Gerónimo Rulli – Ajax to Marseille (£2.6m): Rulli was one of the best keepers on FM a few versions ago, but his career seems to have stalled – to the extent that I didn’t even know he was at Ajax. But, still only 32, a move to Marseille, who’ve done some really interesting business this summer (some better than others), could be the spark he needs to return to his previous levels.
Maximilian Beier – Hoffenheim to Dortmund (£25.7m): I’ve not managed Beier, but he was definitely one of the top German prospects on FM24. The 21-year-old striker offers plenty more to get excited about than Dortmund’s amusingly bad £8m purchase of 33-year-old Pascal Groß.
Elye Wahi – Lens to Marseille (£21.4m): I mentioned Marseille’s transfer business – some of which is more questionable than others – but this is definitely a good one. Wahi was excellent on FM24 with great pace and finishing, so should be an exciting player to build around at Marseille.
Jamie Donley – Spurs to Leyton Orient (Loan): One of the best young attacking talents in recent FM versions, Donley has a huge opportunity to impress in League 1 after featuring for Spurs in pre-season.
Adam Hlozek – Leverkusen to Hoffenheim (£15.3m): A classic FM legend has another big move to another German side, given he wasn’t likely to become a starter for the champions. He nearly joined Leicester but, still only 22, has a big chance at Hoffenheim.
Bobby Clark – Liverpool to RB Salzburg (£10m): Jurgen Klopp’s former assistant Pep Lijnders is in charge at Salzburg, and must think Clark has potential to shell out £10m on the young attacker.
Martín Satríano – Inter to Lens (£1m): From personal experience at Panathinaikos in my EuroTrip save, Satríano is an absolute goal machine. And at just £1m for a 23-year-old attacker, this could be a very savvy bit of business.
Samu Omorodion – Atlético to Porto (£12.3m): Signing Julian Álvarez for £80m and selling this guy for £12m seems an absolutely baffling decision. But Omorodion could rip it up in Portugal if given a chance at Porto.
Vitor Roque – Barcelona to Real Betis (Loan): One of the most exciting strikers in recent FM versions, Roque has, unsurprisingly, been given very little opportunity at Barca. But he now has a massive chance to deliver on his potential at Betis, who have an option to buy.
James Rodríguez – São Paulo to Rayo Vallecano (Free): It feels a little sad to see the decline of James and, now 33, he may be well past his best. But the move back to La Liga offers plenty to get excited about. He joins a side that’s otherwise void of excitement, so could be pivotal to putting the foundations in place to rebuild Rayo in FM.
Matt O’Riley – Celtic to Brighton (£26m): A bit more of an obvious choice, but I think this is a really exciting signing, both in real life and in FM. Brighton definitely have a squad capable of achieving great things on FM, and O’Riley should be a brilliant midfield option to build around.
Gustavo Nunes – Gremio to Brentford (£10m): They may have lost Ivan Toney for big money, but Brentford could have got themselves a little Brazilian starlet. The little winger has plenty of potential in FM24 that could catalyse your Brentford rebuild project.
Carlos Alcaraz – Southampton to Flamengo (£15m): I find Southampton’s transfer business a little baffling. That’s headlined by allowing an exciting, creative midfielder to move on… then signing Ryan Fraser. Alcaraz is only 22 and could shine in Brazilian football.
Youssoufa Moukoko – Dortmund to Nice (Loan): One of the most exciting wonderkids of recent FM versions, Moukoko is showing signs of failing to deliver his potential. But a loan move to France could change all of that, with an option to buy for around £15m.
Naci Ünüvar – Ajax to Espanyol (Loan): I can’t believe Ünüvar is still only 21, mainly because I’m used to seeing him as a much older player in FM. So, of course, he still has bags of potential and now a big opportunity at Espanyol in Spain’s second tier.
Bilal El Khannouss – Genk to Leicester (£20m): This feels like a bit of a coup for Leicester, picking up a player that was a genuine wonderkid on FM24. He’s definitely one to build around if you fancy a shot at recreating the Foxes’ 2016 title miracle.
Pietro Pellegri – Torino to Empoli (Loan): If only I was doing my Gli Azzurri save with Empoli this season, I’d be able to work with the legendary FM goal machine and pair him with Sebastiano Esposito! Pellegri hasn’t yet delivered on his potential in real life, with only 9 career league goals to his name. But a loan move to Empoli could be the catalyst he needs to kick into life.
Maxence Lacroix – Wolfsburg to Crystal Palace (£18m): Signing 24-year-old Lacroix after getting £30m for Joachim Andersen could be a wise bit of business by Palace. Pairing Lacroix with Guéhi, with Trevoh Chalobah as backup, gives you an FM centre-back partnership that’s potentially elite. I’m also intrigued by their deadline day signing of Eddie Nketiah.
André – Fluminense to Wolves (£21m): The idea of managing Wolves on FM is pretty low on my list, but the addition of 23-year-old midfielder André, who was linked with Liverpool last season, certainly adds a little class if you do fancy the challenge.
Dário Essugo – Sporting to Las Palmas (Loan): The intrigue of managing Las Palmas has gone up a notch or two as they added FM wonderkid Essugo and Wolves’ Fábio Silva on deadline day. Who doesn’t dream of a strikeforce of Fábio Silva and Ollie McBurnie?
Arne Engels – Augsburg to Celtic (£11m): I think Celtic have done some intelligent business this transfer window, despite selling O’Riley. Winning the Scottish league is a given on FM, but the real challenge is to build on these transfers and win a European trophy.
Carlos Soler – PSG to West Ham (Loan): Soler is one of my favourite modern players solely through having him at Valencia on previous FMs. And I’m generally loving the transfer business that West Ham have done – they just need a better manager than Lopetegui.
