Atalanta Avventura | Part 24: 10 Years Later

After 10 years in the job at Atalanta, I thought it’d be interesting to take a look back at what’s happened in leagues around the world and what’s changed over a decade.

Of course, in our home league of Serie A the Atalanta boys have dominated of late, wrapping up five straight Scudetto titles. Prior to that, Napoli won the league in the first season of the save, then two titles for Juventus and two for Inter.

European Leagues in Focus

Back home in England, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have increasingly grown in stature. Tottenham won their first title in over 60 years in 2028, with Liverpool winning three of the last ten Premier Leagues.

The FA Cup, on the other hand, has been dominated by the two Manchester clubs, with no other club than City or United winning the competition during this save.

Moving down a league, current Premier League sides Watford, West Ham and Cardiff City have all returned to the top league, while Aston Villa and Birmingham have been relegated to League One with Oxford United.

Moving down the leagues, Bolton Wanderers have just been relegated to League Two along with Northampton, Carlise and AFC Fylde with Bristol City, Barnsley and Shrewsbury moving up a league. No big name teams have yet to drop down into the bottom two leagues, with the biggest being Sheffield Wednesday in League One.

Over in Spain, Real Madrid have been the dominant force, winning the first six La Liga titles in the save, and two of the last three. The last season in particular they were a force to be reckoned with, racking up 98 points and 111 goals.

Over in France, AS Monaco have grown in stature, not only winning five of the last six league titles but also winning the Champions Cup. No side other than Monaco or Paris Saint-Germain has won Ligue 1 for 26 years.

In Germany, FC Bayern’s domination has been stalled in recent years, with Bayer Leverkusen winning the 2028 title, which is their third in seven years. Bayern have only finished outside the top two once since 2011.

And in Portugal, two teams have dominated for a long, long time. No side other than Benfica or Porto has won the Primera Liga since 2002, with the two teams sharing titles between them throughout this save.

And in Holland, PSV Eindhoven have completely dominated for the last 10 years with the exception of a single title for Ajax in 2025.

While in the Champions Cup, our Atalanta side are the only team to have retained the competition during the save. Interestingly, Real Madrid are still yet to win it but Manchester United and Inter Milan have also won it twice.

And the Euro Cup has been shared around by several teams. We won it back in 2022 and were runners-up in 2027, and only Atletico Madrid have won it more than once.

Player Awards

Despite having some of the best young players on the game over the last few seasons, none of my players have yet to win the European Golden Boy. Most have been owned by big teams, while Fabio Silva now at Liverpool, Pietro Pellegri and Rodrygo are all previous winners.

We have had a winner of the Golden Shoe though, with Cosimo Marco Da Graca claiming the award in 2024. Pellegri has won the last four, while Mauro Icardi and Andrea Belotti have also won it twice.

And in terms of transfers, the World Record has been broken amid a flurry of huge transfer deals. Federico Chiesa moved to PSG in a deal worth £196 million in total in 2025, and the previous record holder Kylian Mbappe moved from PSG to Manchester City for £170 million in 2022. City also signed Arsenal regen Zac Thomas for a cool £140 million in 2025.

International Competitions

The World Cup has been won an unprecedented three times in a row by France,

And our success as Italy on home ground in the 2028 European Championships followed Spain’s third success in four attempts, then England winning it in 2024.

Interestingly, the list of world’s richest clubs is led by Hertha BSC, followed by Valencia and Athletic Bilbao. Our Atalanta side sit in 10th place, with the likes of Lazio, Juventus, Inter, Genoa and Fiorentina all sitting above us – which I find fairly difficult to believe.
